Microsoft Publisher Multiple Errors Let Remote Users Execute Arbitrary Code

Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft Publisher. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Publisher file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

An out-of-bounds array index error can trigger code execution [CVE-2011-3410].

An invalid pointer error can trigger code execution [CVE-2011-3411].

A memory corruption error can trigger code execution [CVE-2011-3412].

Will Dormann of the CERT/CC reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can create a file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued the following fixes:
