Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Mozilla Thunderbird. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create specially crafted scripting code that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

Specially crafted document.write() and appendChild() calls can create duplicate text frames and overwrite buffers.

The vulnerability is not triggered by reading mail. However, the vulnerability can be triggered via RSS feeds if JavaScript is enabled or via third party add-ons that enable browser-like functionality.

This vulnerability is being actively exploited on Windows-based systems.

Morten Krakvik of Telenor SOC reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can create scripting code that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (3.0.10, 3.1.6).
