Description:   A vulnerability was reported in the Microsoft Embedded OpenType Font Engine. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Embedded OpenType (EOT) font that, when rendered via an application by the target user, will trigger an integer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

EOT fonts can be rendered in various applications, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office Word.

Microsoft has rated this vulnerability as 'Critical' for Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and 'Low' for the other affected operating systems.

Tavis Ormandy of Google reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can create a font file that, when rendered by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
