Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Microsoft WordPad. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Word 97 file that, when opened by the target user with WordPad, will trigger a memory corruption error and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

The vulnerability resides in the WordPad Text Converter for Word 97 file format.

The vendor reports that this vulnerability is being actively exploited.

Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 are not affected.

Microsoft Office Word is not affected.

Impact:   A remote user can create a file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
