Version(s): 7.0 SP4, 2000 SP4, 2005 SP2
Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft SQL Server. A remote authenticated user can obtain customer data. A remote authenticated user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The server does not initialize memory pages when reallocating memory [CVE-2008-0085]. A remote authenticated user with database operator access can access customer data.

A remote authenticated user can supply a specially crafted input string to trigger a buffer overflow in the convert function to execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2008-0086].

A remote authenticated user can supply a specially crafted insert statement to trigger a buffer overflow in the convert function to execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2008-0106].

The server does not properly validate data structures in on-disk files. A remote authenticated user can exploit this to execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2008-0107].

Brett Moore of Insomnia Security reported the memory corruption vulnerability via iDefense. Anonymous researchers reported the other vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote authenticated user can obtain customer data.

A remote authenticated user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.

A patch matrix is available in the vendor's advisory.

A restart is required.

For users with the Windows Internal Database (Microsoft Windows 2003 or Microsoft Windows 2008) installed on or enabled without SQL Server 2005 SP2 that are running Microsoft Update, Microsoft reports that the SQL Server 2005 service pack 2 update may have been offered incorrectly and failed to install. The Windows Internal Database will be updated. Microsoft has updated the detection logic to correct this.
