Description:   A vulnerability was reported in the Microsoft Windows DNS Service. A remote user can conduct DNS spoofing attacks.

The Windows DNS Server service on Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 does not provide sufficient entropy when generating pseudo-random transaction values in queries sent to upstream DNS servers.

A remote user can send specially crafted DNS responses to the target system (in response to DNS requests) to cause network traffic processed or generated by the target system to be routed to an alternate system.

Impact:   A remote user can spoof the DNS services.
Solution:   The vendor has issued the following fixes:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4:

Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2:

Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Service Pack 2:

Windows Server 2003 with SP1 for Itanium-based Systems and Windows Server 2003 with SP2 for Itanium-based Systems:

A restart is required.
