Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Cisco VPN Client. A local user can obtain root privileges on the target system.

A local user can enable the Start Before Logon (SBL) feature and configure a VPN profile to use the Microsoft Dial-Up Networking interface. Then, the user can exploit a VPN profile configured to use Microsoft dial-up networking to launch a dial-up networking dialog box and gain LocalSystem privileges.

Cisco has assigned Cisco Bug ID CSCse89550 to this vulnerability.

Cisco discovered this vulnerability.

A local user can replace the Cisco VPN Service executable (cvpnd.exe) with an arbitrary executable. The executable will run as a service with LocalSystem privileges.

Cisco has assigned Cisco Bug ID CSCsj00785 to this vulnerability.

Dominic Beecher of Next Generation Security Software Ltd. discovered this vulnerability.

The Cisco VPN Clients for Solaris, Linux, and Macintosh are not affected. The Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client is not affected.

Impact:   A local user can obtain LocalSystem privileges on the target system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fixed version (5.0.01.0600).
