Description:
Two vulnerabilities were reported in Sun Solaris in ld.so.1. A local user can obtain root privileges on the target system.
A local user can trigger a stack overflow in the doprf() function and an input validation flaw in processing the LANG parameter when processing errors to execute arbitrary code on the target system with root privileges.
Sean Larsson of iDefense Labs discovered the buffer overflow vulnerability.

Solution:
Sun has issued the following fixes.
SPARC Platform
* Solaris 8 with patch 109147-42 or later
* Solaris 9 with patch 112963-27 or later
x86 Platform
* Solaris 8 with patch 109148-41 or later
* Solaris 9 with patch 113986-22 or later
A final resolution for Solaris 10 is pending completion.
