JiRo's Link Manager Missing Input Validation Permits SQL Injection and Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1017280
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1017280
CVE Reference:   CVE-2006-6147, CVE-2006-6148   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  May 27 2008
Original Entry Date:  Nov 24 2006
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 1.0
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in JiRo's Link Manager. A remote user can injection SQL commands. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

The 'openlink.asp' and 'viewlinks.asp' scripts do not properly validate user-supplied input. A remote user can supply a specially crafted parameter value to execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

Some demonstration exploit URLs are provided:

/openlink.asp?LinkID='[sql]
/viewlinks.asp?CategoryID='[sql]

The 'submitlink.asp' script does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can submit a specially crafted HTTP POST request. When the target administrative user reviews the submission request, arbitrary scripting code will be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

The Link Name, Link URL, Link Image, and Link Description fields are affected.

Laurent Gaffie & Benjamin Mosse reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can execute SQL commands on the underlying database.
