Original Entry Date:  Aug 10 2006
Impact:   Denial of service via network
Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 10
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Solaris. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions.

A remote user can send a large amount of rapidly opening and closing TCP connections to cause a system panic.

Many tens of thousands of connections are required to exploit this flaw.

Chip Multi-Threading (CMT) processors are more likely to be able to sustain a high level of throughput while still context switching fast enough to trigger the flaw.

Solaris 8 and 9 are not affected.

Impact:   A remote user can cause a system panic in certain situations.
Solution:   Sun indicates that binary relief is available through normal support channels.

A final fix is pending.
