AFCommerce Input Validation Holes in New Review Field and Search Field Permit Cross-Site Scripting and SQL Injection Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1016538
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1016538
CVE Reference:   CVE-2006-3794, CVE-2006-3800   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Jun 14 2008
Original Entry Date:  Jul 20 2006
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Exploit Included:  Yes

Description:   A vulnerability was reported in AFCommerce. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can inject SQL commands.

The software does not properly validate user-supplied input in the search field. A remote user can supply a specially crafted parameter value to execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

A demonstration exploit value is provided:

'or 1=1--

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input in the 'new review' field before displaying the input. A remote user can submit specially crafted text that, when viewed in the 'reviews' section by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the AFCommerce software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

sledge at paradise.net.nz reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the AFCommerce software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry.

Subject:  AFCommerce Shopping Cart

The 'Demo Store' version of the AFCommerce Shopping Cart (www.afcommerce.com) is vulnerable to both SQL Injection and Cross Site Scripting
 (XSS).

SQL Injection can be tested by inserting the classic 'or 1=1-- into the search field. The result is that the first record is returned.
We can also perform a UNION to return all the records.

The XSS vulnerability can be tested by registering as a new user and selecting to add a new review to a product. In the 'new review'
text box we can insert some text such as:

   <b>some text</b><script>alert("xxx")</script>

With this text inserted we can view the product and select 'reviews'. Upon doing this our Alert box is executed with 'xxx' then the
page is displayed with the 'some text' being displayed as bold.

This are only simple example to test for these vulnerabilites. An attacker could take full advantage of these two vulnerabilities
to attack the database, include malicious code or deface the site.
