CVE Reference:   CVE-2006-3732, CVE-2006-3733, CVE-2006-3734   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Nov 28 2006
Original Entry Date:  Jul 19 2006
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Execution of arbitrary code via local system, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Root access via local system, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): prior to 4.2.1
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in the Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System (CS-MARS). A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. An administrator can obtain elevated privileges on the target system.

A remote user can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the JBoss server component of CS-MARS to execute arbitrary shell commands on the target device with the privileges of the CS-MARS administrator.

A remote authenticated administrator can exploit some flaws in the command line interface to execute shell commands with root privileges on the target device.

A user may be able to access the underlying Oracle database to obtain authentication credentials for network devices (e.g., firewalls, routers, IPS devices) and view network security event details. This can potentially be achieved using built-in database accounts with well-known passwords.

Jon Hart reported the JBoss vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary shell commands on the target system.

A remote authenticated administrator can obtain elevated privileges on the target system.

A user can obtain authentication information and event information from the database.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fixed version (4.2.1 and later), available at:
