ORBITMATRIX Input Validation Hole Permits Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1016490
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1016490
CVE Reference:   CVE-2006-3609, CVE-2006-3614   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Jul 18 2008
Original Entry Date:  Jul 13 2006
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 1.0
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in ORBITMATRIX. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

The 'index.php' script does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input in the 'page_name' parameter before displaying the input. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the ORBITMATRIX software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/index.php?page_name=<IMG%20SRC=javascript:alert('XSS')>

luny reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the ORBITMATRIX software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry.

Orbitmatrix PHP Script v1.0

Homepage:

http://www.orbitcoders.com/

Affected files:

index.php

Possible SQL injection?:

http://www.example.com/index.php?page_name='

And by trying a XSS vuln as shown below on page_name we see the query below which is displayed on screen:

http://www.example.com/index.php?page_name=contact<script>

And the displayed query:

Query: select code from pages where name=contact

Now we know the tables name is pages and a row is name.

This works on all variable values.

As the above XSS vuln wont work, we can see that using the one below will:

http://www.example.com/index.php?page_name=<IMG%20SRC=javascript:alert('XSS')>
