Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Mac OS X on Intel-based systems. A physically local user can bypass the firmware password.

A physically local user can bypass the firmward password and gain 'Single User Mode' access on the target system.

Apple credits David Pugh of the University of Michigan with reporting this vulnerability.

Impact:   A physically local user can bypass the firmward password feature.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix for OS X version 10.4.5, available from the Software Update pane in System Preferences, or Apple's Software Downloads web site at:

Description:  Intel-based Macintosh computers support the
firmware password feature. Prior to this update, a person with
physical access to the computer could bypass the firmware
password and access the "Single User Mode". This update
addresses the issue by enhancing the security provided by the
firmware password. Credit to David Pugh of the University of
Michigan for reporting this issue.
