Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Dwarf HTTP Server. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can view JSP source code.

The server does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied URLs before displaying the input as part of an error message. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Dwarf HTTP Server software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

The server also does not properly validate user-supplied filename extensions. A remote user can supply a specially crafted request containing dot, space, slash, and NULL characters to view the source code of JSP files.

The vendor was notified on February 17, 2006.

Tan Chew Keong of Secunia Research discovered this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the Dwarf HTTP Server software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can view JSP source code.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fixed version (1.3.3).

3) Description of Vulnerability

Secunia Research has discovered two vulnerabilities in Dwarf HTTP
Server, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose
potentially sensitive information and to conduct cross-site scripting
attacks.

1) The vulnerability is caused due to a validation error of the
filename extension supplied by the user in the URL. This can be
exploited to retrieve the source code of JSP files from the server
via specially crafted requests containing dot, space, slash and NULL
characters.

2) Input passed to the URL is not sansitised before being return to
the user in an error message. This can be exploited to execute
arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context
of an affected site.
