Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Microsoft Windows Telephony. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A local user can gain elevated privileges.

The Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) service contains a flaw that can be exploited remotely to execute code. A remote user can take complete control of the target system and install programs, modify or delete data, or create new accounts.

On Windows 2000 Server, a remote user can send a specially crafted message to the target system to exploit this vulnerability.

On Windows Server 2003, a remote authenticated user can attempt to exploit the Telephony service.

On Windows 2000 Professional and on Windows XP, this is a local privilege escalation vulnerability.

The vendor credited Kostya Kortchinsky from CERT RENATER with reporting this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A local user can gain elevated privileges.
