McAfee Security Management System Lets Remote Authenticated Users Gain Elevated Privileges
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1014422
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1014422
CVE Reference:   CVE-2005-2186, CVE-2005-2187, CVE-2005-2188   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Jun 16 2008
Original Entry Date:  Jul 8 2005
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Vendor Confirmed:  Yes  Exploit Included:  Yes

Description:   A vulnerability was reported in the McAfee Security Management System console. A remote authenticated user can gain elevated privileges.

The 'intrushield/intruvert/jsp/systemHealth/SystemEvent.jsp' script does not properly validate user-supplied input in the 'thirdMenuName' and 'resourceName' parameters. A remote user can submit specially crafted input that, when viewed by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the vulnerable software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote authenticated user can set the 'fullAccessRight' parameter of the 'reports-column-center.jsp' script from 'false' to 'true' to gain access to the 'Generate Reports' section.

A remote authenticated user can also set the 'fullAccess' option of the 'SystemEvent.jsp' script from 'false' to 'true' to acknowledge, de-acknowledge, and delete alerts from the target console.

A remote authenticated user can conduct a brute force attack against the '/intruvert/jsp/menu/disp.jsp' script and supply a series of 'userId' parameter values to identify privileged accounts.

c0ntex reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote authenticated user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the console software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote authenticated user can gain access to the 'Generate Reports' section and can acknowledge, de-acknowledge, and delete alerts from the target console.

A remote authenticated user can determine privileged manager accounts.

Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry. The vendor is working on a fix.
