Koobi Input Validation Holes Let Remote Users Inject SQL Commands and Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1013558
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1013558
CVE Reference:   CVE-2005-0889, CVE-2005-0890   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Jul 7 2008
Original Entry Date:  Mar 25 2005
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 4.2.3; possibly earlier versions
Description:   Some input validation vulnerabilities were reported in Koobi. A remote user can inject SQL commands and conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can also determine the installation path.

The 'input.php' script does not properly validate user-supplied input in the 'area' parameter. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Koobi software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user. A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/index.php?area=[XSS]

A remote user can also supply a specially crafted 'area' value to execute SQL commands on the underlying database. A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/index.php?p=articles&area=[SQLCode]

A remote user can determine the installation path with the following type of URLs:

http://[target]/index.php?area=1[some stuff]&p=news&newsid=1
http://[target]/index.php?p=news'&newsid=1

mircia from security.talte.net reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the Koobi software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

A remote user can determine the installation path.

Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry.
