Description:
An input validation vulnerability was reported in Serendipity. A remote user can conduct HTTP response splitting attacks.
The vendor reported that a remote user may be able to cause the target server to return a split response. A remote user can exploit this to spoof content on the target server, attempt to poison any intermediate web caches, or conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
The processing of the requested URI in 'index.php' and of the HTTP Referer field in 'comments.php' is affected.
Chaotic Evil later provided a demonstration exploit URL [with Base64 encoding for the 'url' parameter value]:
http://[target]/serendipity/exit.php?url=DQpDb25uZWN0aW9uOiBLZWVwLUFsaXZlDQpDb
250ZW50LUxlbmd0aDogMA0KDQpIVFRQLzEuMCAyMDAgT0sNCkNvbnRlbnQtTGVuZ3RoOiAyMQ0KQ
29udGVudC1UeXBlOiB0ZXh0L2h0bWwNCg0KPGh0bWw%2bKmRlZmFjZWQqPC9odG1sPg%3d%3d
The vendor was notified on October 14, 2004.
The vendor credits Chaotic Evil with reporting this flaw.
