Password protect Input Validation Holes Let Remote Users Inject SQL Commands and Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1011093
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1011093
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Aug 31 2004
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Exploit Included:  Yes

Description:   Criolabs reported some input validation vulnerabilities in Password protect. A remote user can inject SQL commands. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

It is reported that several scripts do not properly validate user-supplied input.

A remote user can supply a specially crafted request to inject SQL commands to be executed by the underlying database. This can be exploited to gain administrative access to the application or to view or modify the database. The LoginId, OPass, NPass, and CPass parameters in ChangePassword.asp are affected. The admin and Pass parameters in index_next.asp are affected. The users_add.asp and users_edit.asp scripts also suffer from SQL injection vulnerabilities.

It is also reported that a remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Password protect software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

The ShowMsg parameter in ChangePassword.asp, index.asp, users_list.asp, users_add.asp, and users_edit.asp is affected.

The vendor was notified on August 6, 2004, without response.

Some demonstration exploit examples are provided in the original advisory, available at:

http://www.criolabs.net/advisories/passprotect.txt

Impact:   A remote user can inject SQL commands to be executed by the underlying database.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the Password protect software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
