PHP Multiple Flaws Let Remote Users Execute Arbitrary Code, Deny Service, and Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1041699
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1041699
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Sep 22 2018
Impact:   Denial of service via network, Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes

Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in PHP. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions on the target system. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input when processing the header 'Transfer-Encoding: chunked'. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the PHP software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user. Versions 5.6.x and 7.0.x are affected.

A remote user can trigger a memory leak when using class_alias() in non-debug mode. Version 7.2.x is affected.

A remote user can send specially crafted data to trigger various iconv_mime_decode() errors. Versions 7.1.x and 7.2.x are affected.

A remote user can send specially crafted data to trigger various memory corruption errors in MessageFormatter::formatMessage() and potentially execute arbitrary code on the target system. Versions 7.1.x and 7.2.x are affected.

Other errors may occur.

Impact:   A remote user can cause denial of service conditions.

A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the PHP software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (5.6.38, 7.0.32, 7.1.22, 7.2.10).
