Open-Xchange App Suite Multiple Bugs Let Remote Users Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks and Remote Authenticated Users Obtain Potentially Sensitive Information
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1041213
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1041213
CVE Reference:   CVE-2018-9997, CVE-2018-9998   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Jul 3 2018
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes  Exploit Included:  Yes

Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Open-Xchange App Suite. A remote authenticated user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

A remote authenticated user can send specially crafted XML external entity data to determine if specified files exist on the target system or to cause the target system to connect to other hosts.

A remote authenticated user can trigger an error when requesting task folders to cause the target system to disclose the name of 'foreign' folders belonging to other users in the same context [CVE-2018-9998].

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2018-9997]. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Open-Xchange software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Script gadgets are affected. HTML files, mail, and contacts are affected. HTML mail and other HTML attachments are affected. Certain content-types are affected.

Michael Reizelman, Secator, and Antonio (rceman) reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote authenticated user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the Open-Xchange software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (7.6.3-rev37, 7.8.2-rev40, 7.8.3-rev48, 7.8.4-rev28).
