CVE Reference:   CVE-2018-0954, CVE-2018-1022, CVE-2018-1025, CVE-2018-8145, CVE-2018-8178   (Links to External Site)
Date:  May 8 2018
Impact:   Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 9, 10, 11
Description:   Multiple vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft Edge. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system. A remote user can bypass security controls on the target system. A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system. Microsoft Internet Explorer is affected.

A remote user can create specially crafted content that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger an object memory handling error and execute arbitrary code on the target user's system [CVE-2018-8128, CVE-2018-8137, CVE-2018-8139, CVE-2018-0945, CVE-2018-0946, CVE-2018-0951, CVE-2018-0953, CVE-2018-8123, CVE-2018-8178, CVE-2018-8179].

A remote user can create specially crafted content that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger an object memory handling error in the Chakra scripting engine and execute arbitrary code on the target user's system [CVE-2018-8130, CVE-2018-8133, CVE-2018-0943].

A remote user can create specially crafted content that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger an object memory handling error in the Chakra scripting engine and access potentially sensitive memory contents on the target user's system [CVE-2018-8145].

A remote user can create specially crafted content that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger an object memory handling error and access potentially sensitive information on the target user's system [CVE-2018-1021, CVE-2018-1025].

A remote user can create specially crafted content that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger an object memory handling error and execute arbitrary code on the target user's system [CVE-2018-0954, CVE-2018-1022]. This can be exploited via and embeded ActiveX control marked as "safe for initialization" or via an application or Microsoft Office document that hosts the browser rendering engine.

A remote user can bypass Same-Origin Policy (SOP) restrictions to cause the target user's browser to send potentially sensitive data [CVE-2018-8112].

Lokihardt of Google Project Zero, Johnathan Norman, Windows & Devices Group - Operating System Security Team, Yuki Chen of Qihoo 360 Vulcan Team, Zhong Zhaochen of tophant.com, akayn (via Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative), RanchoIce of Tencent ZhanluLab (via Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative), Instructor of Tencent ZhanluLab, Danny__Wei of Tencent's Xuanwu Lab (via Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative), Aradnok, Richard Zhu (fluorescence) (via Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative), and Marcin Towalski (@mtowalski1) reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can create content that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.

A remote user can bypass security controls on the target system.

A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system.

Solution:   Microsoft has issued a fix for CVE-2018-0954, CVE-2018-1022, CVE-2018-1025, CVE-2018-8145, and CVE-2018-8178 for Microsoft Internet Explorer.
