Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Xen. A local user on the guest system can cause denial of service conditions on the host system. A local user on the guest system may be able to gain elevated privileges on the host system.

A local user on the guest system running shadow mode can trigger an error handling bug in the shadow mode reference counting to cause the hypervisor to crash. A local user may be able to exploit this to gain elevated privileges on the host system.

x86 systems are affected.

Jan Beulich of SUSE reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user on the guest system can cause denial of service conditions on the host system.

A local user on the guest system can gain elevated privileges on the host system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (xsa250-4.5.patch and xsa250.patch).
