Blue Coat ProxySG Multiple Bugs Let Remote Users Deny Service and Remote Authenticated Administrators Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks and Execute Arbitrary Code
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1040757
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1040757
CVE Reference:   CVE-2016-10258, CVE-2017-13677, CVE-2017-13678   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Apr 25 2018
Impact:   Denial of service via network, Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes

Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Blue Coat ProxySG. A remote user can cause the target service to crash. A remote authenticated administrator user may be able to cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system. A remote authenticated administrator user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

A remote user can send specially crafted HTTP/HTTPS requests to cause the target management console application to crash [CVE-2017-13677]. Version 6.7.4.x is not affected.

The management console interface does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2017-13678]. A remote authenticated administrator user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the Blue Coat ProxySG interface and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote authenticated administrator user can create and upload a specially crafted file to the management console that, when downloaded and executed by the target administrator user, will execute arbitrary code on the target administrator user's system [CVE-2016-10258]. Version 6.7.4.x is not affected.

Robert Jaroszuk @ RBS Security, Jakub Palaczynski, and Pawel Bartunek reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote authenticated administrator user can create content that, when loaded by the target authenticated administrator user, will execute arbitrary code on the target authenticated administrator user's system.

A remote user can cause the target management console application to crash.

A remote authenticated administrator user can access the target administrator user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the Blue Coat ProxySG management console interface, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the interface, or take actions on the interface acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (6.5.10.8, 6.6.5.14, 6.7.3.1, 6.7.4.107).
