RSA Authentication Agent for Web Multiple Flaws Let Remote Users Deny Service and Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks and Let Local Users Obtain Potentially Sensitive Information
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1040577
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1040577
CVE Reference:   CVE-2018-1232, CVE-2018-1233, CVE-2018-1234   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Mar 27 2018
Impact:   Denial of service via network, Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): for Web for IIS and Apache Web Server; 8.0.1 and before
Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in RSA Authentication Agent for Web for IIS and Apache Web Server. A remote user can cause the target service to crash. A local user can obtain potentially sensitive information. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

A remote user can supply specially crafted cookies to trigger a stack overflow and cause the target service to crash [CVE-2018-1232].

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2018-1233]. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the RSA Authentication Agent software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A local user can exploit an access control flaw on a Windows Named Pipe to obtain potentially sensitive configuration properties for the target authentication agent [CVE-2018-1234]. RSA Authentication Agent for Web for IIS is affected.

Harrison Neal reported two vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can cause the target service to crash.

A local user can view configuration properties for the target authentication agent.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the RSA Authentication Agent software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (8.0.2; Advisory DSA-2018-040).

Cause:   Access control error, Boundary error, Input validation error
