CVE Reference:   CVE-2018-6186, CVE-2018-6808, CVE-2018-6809, CVE-2018-6810, CVE-2018-6811   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Mar 1 2018
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, Root access via network, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 10.5, 10.5, 11.0, 11.0, 11.1, 11.1, 12.0, 12.0
Description:   Multiple vulnerabilities were reported in Citrix NetScaler Application Delivery Controller (ADC) and NetScaler Gateway. A remote authenticated user can gain elevated privileges. A remote user can obtain files on the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

A remote user can send a specially crafted request to traverse the directory on the target system [CVE-2018-6810].

A remote user can download arbitrary files on the target system [CVE-2018-6808].

A remote user can gain elevated privileges on the target system [CVE-2018-6809].

[Editor's note: The vendor did not indicate whether authentication is required to exploit CVE-2018-6808, CVE-2018-6809, and CVE-2018-6810. The specific impact of the directory traversal vulnerability (CVE-2018-6810) was not disclosed.]

The interface does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2018-6811]. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the Citrix NetScaler interface and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote authenticated webapp user can conduct a server-side request forgery attack via '/rapi/read_url' to gain access to the 'nsroot' account and execute commands with root privileges on the target system [CVE-2018-6186]. Citrix NetScaler VPX through NS12.0 53.13.nc is affected.

The Qualys Security Research Team reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote authenticated user can gain elevated privileges on the target system.

A remote user can obtain files on the target system.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the Citrix NetScaler interface, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the interface, or take actions on the interface acting as the target user.

Solution:   Citrix has issued a fix (10.5 Build 67.10, 11.0 Build 71.18, 11.1 Build 56.15, 12.0 Build 57.19).
