Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Windows Server Message Block. A remote authenticated user can cause the target system to crash.

A remote authenticated Server Message Block (SMB) server can return specially crafted SMB data to the connected client to cause the target client system to stop responding.

A manual restart is required to return the system to normal operation.

Nabeel Ahmed and Eric Schayes from Dimension Data (via Trend Micro Zero Day Initiative) reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote authenticated user can cause the connected target client system to stop responding.

A manual restart is required to return the system to normal operation.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.
