CVE Reference:   CVE-2017-14186   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Nov 29 2017

Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 5.0 and before, 5.2.0 - 5.2.12, 5.4.0 - 5.4.6, 5.6.0 - 5.6.2
Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Fortinet FortiGate/FortiOS SSL-VPN. A remote user can redirect the target user's browser to an arbitrary site. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

A remote user can create a URL that, when loaded by the target user, will redirect the target user's browser to an arbitrary site.

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Fortinet FortiGate/FortiOS software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

The login redir parameter is affected.

Stefan Viehbck from SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can cause the target user's browser to be redirected to an arbitrary web site.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the Fortinet FortiGate/FortiOS software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (5.6.3, 5.4.6 special build, pending version 5.4.7, 5.2.12 special build, pending version 5.2.13).
