Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Splunk. A local user can obtain root privileges on the target system.

A local user can execute arbitrary commands on the target system with root privileges.

Systems running with non-root user privileges and with the '$SPLUNK_HOME' and '$SPLUNK_HOME/etc' directories owned by the splunk user may be affected.

Impact:   A local user can obtain root privileges on the target system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued an advisory. The vendor recommends that users do not execute Splunk startup/run control scripts as the root user.
