Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Xen. A local user on the guest system can gain elevated privileges on the host system.

A local user on two guest systems (a PV and an HVM guest) can trigger a flaw in the page transfer function (GNTTABOP_transfer) to access all system memory and gain elevated privileges on the target system.

x86 systems are affected.

ARM systems are not affected.

Jann Horn of Google Project Zero reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user on two guest systems can gain elevated privileges on the host system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (xsa217-4.5.patch and xsa217.patch).
