QNAP Storage Devices Multiple Flaws Let Remote Users Inject SQL Commands, Steal Cookies, Conduct Cross-Site Scripting and Clickjacking Attacks, Obtain Potentially Sensitive Informaiton, and Execute Arbitrary Code
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1038091
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1038091
CVE Reference:   CVE-2017-5227, CVE-2017-6359, CVE-2017-6360, CVE-2017-6361   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Mar 22 2017
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): prior to 4.2.4 Build 20170313
Description:   Multiple vulnerabilities were reported in QNAP Storage Devices. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can conduct click-jacking attacks. A user can obtain passwords on the target system. A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system. A remote user can inject SQL commands. A remote user can gain access to the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

A remote user can send specially crafted data to trigger a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can hijack a target user's mouse clicks to take actions on the site acting as the target user.

The software does not properly validate user-supplied input. A remote user can supply a specially crafted parameter value to execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

The interface does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the QNAP Storage Devices interface and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A configuration file vulnerability has unspecified impact [CVE-2017-5227].

A remote user can send specially crafted data to inject commands on the target system [CVE-2017-6359, CVE-2017-6360, CVE-2017-6361].

The system may incorrectly control a remote authenticated user's access to resources on the target system.

The system does not set the HttpOnly flag in cookies. As a result, a remote user may be able to steal session cookies.

The system uses a default SNMP community name. A remote user can use these credentials to gain access to the target system.

A remote user can gain anonymous LDAP access view potentially sensitive information on the target system.

A user can access clear text NMP credentials.

Pasquale Fiorillo of ISGroup, and Guido Oricchio of PCego, Peter Kostiuk of Salesforce.com, Oliver Gruskovnjak of Salesforce.com, and Harry Sintonen of F-Secure reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can conduct clickjacking attacks.

A remote user can execute arbitrary commands on the target system.

A user can obtain passwords on the target system.

A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system.

A remote user can execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

A remote user can gain access to the target system.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the QNAP Storage Devices interface, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the interface, or take actions on the interface acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (QTS 4.2.4 Build 20170313).
