Description:   A vulnerability was reported in the Linux kernel. A local user can obtain root privileges on the target system. VMware vRealize Automation and Operations are affected.

A local user can a race condition in the kernel memory subsystem in the management of copy-on-write operations on read-only memory mappings to overwrite kernel memory and gain kernel-level privileges.

This vulnerability is being actively exploited.

Impact:   A local user can obtain root privileges on the target system.
Solution:   VMware has issued a fix for CVE-2016-5195 for VMware vRealize Operations virtual appliance.
