SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1036744
CVE Reference:   CVE-2016-7152, CVE-2016-7153   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Sep 8 2016
Impact:   Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information
Exploit Included:  Yes

Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Opera. A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system in certain cases.

A remote user can create specially crafted Javascript that, when loaded by the target user, will conduct a side-channel attack on the SSL/TLS protocol against arbitrary web sites by issuing specially crafted cross-origin requests and then monitoring response characteristics of the TCP congestion window protocol to determine the length of the response.

This may be combined with attacks against separate vulnerabilities to potentially obtain cleartext data.

The HTTPS protocol is affected [CVE-2016-7152].

The HTTP/2 protocol is affected [CVE-2016-7153].

Browsers that support third-party cookies are affected against target sites that use third-party cookies.

This vulnerability is known as "HTTP Encrypted Information can be Stolen Through TCP-Windows" (HEIST).
