CA Release Automation Bugs Let Remote Users Conduct Cross-Site Scripting and XML External Entity Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1036193
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1036193
CVE Reference:   CVE-2015-7370, CVE-2015-8698, CVE-2015-8699   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Jun 29 2016
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 5.0.2, 5.5.2, 5.5.1, 6.1.0
Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in CA Release Automation. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote authenticated user can conduct XML external entity attacks to obtain files on the target system.

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the CA Release Automation software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A third party component (Open Flash Chart) is affected [CVE-2015-7370].

The web interface is affected [CVE-2015-8699].

A remote authenticated user on the local network can supply specially crafted XML External Entity (XXE) data to the target interface to obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system with the privileges of the target service [CVE-2015-8698].

Marcin Woloszyn, ING, reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the CA Release Automation software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote authenticated user on the local network can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system with the privileges of the target service.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (5.0.2-227, 5.5.2-434, 5.5.1-1616, 6.1.0-1026).
