Open-Xchange App Suite Multiple Bugs Let Remote Users Obtain Potentially Sensitive Information, Conduct Cross-Site Scripting and Server-Side Request Forgery Attacks, Spoof Content, and Deny Service
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1036157
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1036157
CVE Reference:   CVE-2016-4026, CVE-2016-4027, CVE-2016-4045, CVE-2016-4046, CVE-2016-4047, CVE-2016-4048   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Jun 23 2016
Impact:   Denial of service via network, Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of system information, Modification of user information
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes

Description:   Multiple vulnerabilities were reported in Open-Xchange. A remote user can conduct server-side request forgery attacks. A remote authenticated user can consume excessive resources on the target system. A remote authenticated user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system. A remote user can spoof content. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can conduct XML external entity attacks to obtain files on the target system.

The system may store authentication cookies on the target user's system after a session has terminated [CVE-2016-4027]. A remote user with access to the target user's system may be able to access cookies that contain authentication information.

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Open-Xchange software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

The content sanitizer component is affected [CVE-2016-4026]. Mohamed Khaled Fathy reported this vulnerability.

The legacy AJP connector is affected [CVE-2016-4026].

The RSS component is affected [CVE-2016-4045].

The review mode comment feature is affected [CVE-2016-4045]. Saeed Hashem reported this vulnerability.

A remote user can spoof custom messages on the login screen [CVE-2016-4048]. Saeed Hashem reported this vulnerability.

A remote user can supply specially crafted XML External Entity (XXE) data to the target interface to read files on the target system with the privileges of the target service [CVE-2016-4047]. Deepanker Chawla reported this vulnerability.

A remote user can exploit a flaw in the RSS configuration API to conduct server-side request forgery attacks and cause the target system to connect to arbitrary hosts on arbitrary ports [CVE-2016-4046].

A remote user can exploit a flaw in the external mail account configuration API to conduct server-side request forgery attacks and cause the target system to connect to arbitrary hosts on arbitrary ports [CVE-2016-4046].

A remote user create a specially crafted, large XML file that, when loaded via RSS by the target system, will cause excessive resource consumption on the target system. System responsiveness may be adversely affected. Versions 7.8.1 and prior are affected.

Impact:   A remote user can take actions on the target system acting as the target authenticated user.

A remote authenticated user can consume excessive memory resources on the target system.

A remote authenticated user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system.

A remote user can spoof a URL.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the Open-Xchange software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can read files on the target system with the privileges of the target service.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (7.6.2-rev54, 7.6.3-rev11, 7.8.0-rev30, 7.8.1-rev11) [in May 2016].
