Cisco Small Business RV110W/RV130W/RV215W Series Routers Input Validation Flaw Lets Remote Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1036114
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1036114
CVE Reference:   CVE-2016-1396   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Jun 15 2016
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): RV110W, RV130W, RV215W
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Cisco Small Business RV110W/RV130W/RV215W Series Routers. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

The web management interface does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the Cisco Small Business RV Series interface and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

If the remote management interface is enabled, this vulnerability can be exploited from the WAN interface.

The following models are affected:

RV110W Wireless-N VPN Firewall
RV130W Wireless-N Multifunction VPN Router
RV215W Wireless-N VPN Router

The vendor has assigned bug IDs CSCux82567, CSCux82583, and CSCux82599 to this vulnerability.

Samuel Huntley reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the Cisco Small Business RV Series interface, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the interface, or take actions on the interface acting as the target user.
Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry.

The vendor plans to issue a fix in the third quarter of 2016 (RV110W 1.2.1.7, RV130W 1.0.3.16, RV215W 1.3.0.8).
