Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Windows Media Center. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system. A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Media Center link (.mcl) file that references specially crafted code that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2015-6131]. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Media Center link (.mcl) file that references specially crafted code that, when loaded by the target user, will obtain local file system information [CVE-2015-6127].

Francisco Falcon of Core Security, NSFOCUS Security Team, Parvez Anwar, and Steven Vittitoe of Google Project Zero reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can create content that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code or obtain local file system information on the target user's system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.
