Description:   A vulnerability was reported in ntpd. A remote authenticated user can cause the target service to crash.

A remote authenticated user on the local network on a system that is permitted to to perform remote configuration can send a specially crafted configuration directive message containing a null byte to cause the target service to crash.

Systems configured for remote configuration (not the default configuration) are affected.

Aleksis Kauppinen of Codenomicon reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote authenticated user on the local network can cause the target service to crash.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (4.2.8p3) [in May 2015].
