Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Xen. A local user on the guest system can gain elevated privileges on the host system.

The system does not validate level 2 page table entries in certain cases. A local user on the PV guest system can create writeable mappings using super page mappings to gain elevated privileges on the host system.

x86 systems are affected.

ARM systems are not affected.

Shang Cong Luan of Alibaba reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user on the guest system can gain elevated privileges on the host system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (xsa148-4.4.patch, xsa148-4.5.patch, and xsa148.patch).
