Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Cisco IOS XR for for Cisco CRS-3. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions on the target system.

A remote user can send an IPv6 packet with specially crafted extension headers to trigger an ASIC scan of the Network Processor Unit (NPU) and cause the targetline card to reload.

Both IPv6 transit traffic and IPv6 traffic sent to the device itself can trigger this flaw.

The vendor has assigned bug ID CSCtx03546 to this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can cause the target line card to reload.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (4.2.1). Software Maintenance Updates (SMUs) are available for versions 4.1.x and 4.2.0.
