Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft Windows OpenType and TrueType Font Drivers. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system. A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information from the target user's system.

The Windows DirectWrite library does not properly handle OpenType fonts [CVE-2015-1670]. A remote user can create a specially crafted font file that, when loaded by the target user, will access potentially sensitive information on the target user's system.

Mateusz Jurczyk of Google Project Zero reported this vulnerability.

A remote user can create a specially crafted TrueType font file that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2015-1671]. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

Yichong Lin reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can create a file that, when loaded by the target user, will access potentially sensitive information or execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.

[Editor's note: On May 21, 2015, Microsoft updated bulletin MS15-044 to indicate that a new update (3065979) is available to correct an issue that may occur after installing the 3045171 update on Windows 7/Windows 2008 R2 and prior systems.]
