Description:   A vulnerability was reported in VMware ESXi. A local user can obtain elevated privileges on the target system.

A local user on the guest operating system can write to arbitrary files to potentially gain elevated privileges on the guest system.

A local user on the host operating system can write to arbitrary files to potentially gain elevated privileges on the host system.

Systems with permissions added for a virtual machine administrator role, or higher role, to the target ESXi or a vCenter Server managing the target ESXi are affected.

Shanon Olsson (via JPCERT) reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user on the guest system can obtain elevated privileges on the target guest system.

A local user on the host system can obtain elevated privileges on the target host system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.
