Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Xen. A local user on a guest system can obtain elevated privileges or cause denial of service conditions on the guest system.

The x86 emulation code does not properly check supervisor mode permissions of HLT, LGDT, LIDT, and LMSW instructions. A local user on an HVM guest system can obtain guest kernel privileges or cause the guest system to crash.

Andrei Lutas at BitDefender reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user on a guest system can obtain elevated privileges or cause denial of service conditions on the guest system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (xsa105.patch; XSA-105).
