SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1030070
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1030070
CVE Reference:   CVE-2014-2541, CVE-2014-2542, CVE-2014-2543   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Apr 11 2014
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 8.4.1 and prior
Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in TIBCO Rendezvous. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can obtain and modify potentially sensitive information.

A remote user can bypass access controls in some cases to obtain and modify potentially sensitive information [CVE-2014-2541].

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2014-2542]. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the TIBCO Rendezvous software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can send specially crafted data to trigger a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2014-2543]. The code will run with the privileges of the target service.

The following components are affected:

TIBCO Rendezvous Daemon (rvd)
TIBCO Rendezvous Routing Daemon (rvrd)
TIBCO Rendezvous Secure Daemon (rvsd)
TIBCO Rendezvous Secure Routing Daemon (rvsrd)

The TIBCO Messaging Appliance and TIBCO Substation ES products are also affected.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the TIBCO Rendezvous software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can obtain and modify potentially sensitive information.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (8.4.2).
