RSA Adaptive Authentication Input Validation Flaws Permit Cross-Site and Cross-Frame Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1029984
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1029984
CVE Reference:   CVE-2014-0637, CVE-2014-0638   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Apr 3 2014
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): (On-Premise) 6.x, 7.x
Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in RSA Adaptive Authentication. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can conduct cross-frame scripting attacks.

The back-office case management application does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2014-0637]. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the RSA Adaptive Authentication software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can also cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed in a different frame to obtain potentially sensitive information [CVE-2014-0638].

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the RSA Adaptive Authentication software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (7.1 SP0 P2, Security Alert ESA-2014-020).
