CVE Reference:   CVE-2014-2281, CVE-2014-2282, CVE-2014-2283, CVE-2014-2299   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Mar 12 2014
Impact:   Denial of service via network, Execution of arbitrary code via network, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 1.10.0 to 1.10.5, 1.8.0 to 1.8.12
Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Wireshark. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions.

A remote user can create a specially crafted packet trace file that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger a buffer overflow in the MPEG file parser and execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2014-2299]. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

A remote user can send specially crafted data to cause the target service to crash.

The NFS dissector is affected [CVE-2014-2281]

The M3UA dissector is affected [CVE-2014-2282]. Versions 1.10.0 to 1.10.5 are affected.

The RLC dissector is affected [CVE-2014-2283].

Moshe Kaplan, Laurent Butti, and Wesley Neelen each reported one vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can create a file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.

A remote user can cause Wireshark to crash.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (1.10.6, 1.8.13).
