Juniper Network and Security Manager Axis2 Bugs Let Remote Users Condcut Cross-Site Scripting Attacks and Execute Arbitrary Code
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1028911
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1028911
CVE Reference:   CVE-2010-0219, CVE-2010-2103   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Aug 13 2013
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): prior to versions 2010.3S12, 2011.4S9, 2012.1R6, 2012.2R2
Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Juniper Network and Security Manager. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

A remote user can use a default Axis2 username and password to upload a specially crafted '.aar' Axis2 service file and then issue a SOAP request to execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2010-0219]. The code will run with SYSTEM privileges.

A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will exploit an input validation flaw in Axis2 and cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser [CVE-2010-2103]. The code will originate from the site running the Juniper Network and Security Manager interface and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

The vulnerabilities reside in the included Axis2 third party component.

Juniper Network and Security Manager was formerly known as NetScreen-Security Manager.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the Juniper Network and Security Manager interface, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (2010.3S12, 2011.4S9, 2012.1R6, 2012.2R2).
